You could order prints from a big manufacturer and pay for more than you need. Or, go to a local printer and pay more than you should. Tim Lamm built Diginate to occupy that happy medium in between: offering custom printing at any quantity, at a reasonable price.
Diginate uses Twilio SMS to keep their customers updated on the status of their order from the first press to the final shipment. We talked to founder Tim about how he’s using Twilio, and his special discount for Twilio blog readers. Check out the promo code below and get printing!
Who is Diginate and how did you get started?
Diginate is a website which allows you to design stickers, posters and art prints online, which we then print and ship to you anywhere in the world. We’re based in London but our userbase is global.
We started the company with one printing machine and a basic website, and have grown from there. We now offer a wide range of materials and finishes, including metallics and spot-uv varnishes, and can custom cut to any shape.
What problem were you trying to solve with custom order printing?
The idea for Diginate stemmed from the frustration of trying to buy one-off custom stickers. Even if you could find a printer willing to print a small run, it would require endless emails to spec up the job, and then you’d be hit by setup fees or an extortionate overall price tag.
We figured that if we could build a system to process lots of orders quickly and efficiently we could offer really short-run, unique prints at a reasonable cost. So that’s what we did! In addition to the smooth order process, the website includes a fully-featured design app so you don’t need any specialist design software.
Fantastic. Our client base ranges from individuals right through to worldwide organisations – it turns out everybody has a need for one-off or short run prints from time to time. Due to the flexibility of our products and service they get used for a vast array of applications, from TV show set design, through to personalising the England football team‘s water bottles. We even branded a rocket which went into space!
We always like to see what our customers are up to, and get lots of great feedback through our twitter and Facebook pages.
How are you using Twilio?
We’ve been offering live order updates via Twitter for a while now – if you select the option we’ll tweet you as your order moves through every stage of production, right through to dispatch. The feature is so popular we decided to roll it out via SMS, which is where Twilio comes in.
Integrating Twilio into our production system was really simple. Our customers love to know what’s going on with their orders, and SMS updates are just another way of keeping them in the loop!
