Since then, we’ve all been hard at work bringing instant satisfaction to the cloud and our friends over at Box just released a new irresistible feature.

Announced today, Instant Mode is the ability to provision Box storage in a user’s account without authentication – it is as simple as passing an email address. This new RESTful endpoint creates a folder within the account that only accessible by your app and the best part is that the user doesn’t even need a Box account. Users without an account will have the storage created and associated with their email address. Users with an account will see it appear in their account just like the rest of their Box folders.

We’re so stoked about this new version of the Box API we’re celebrating it the best way we know how – a slambang developer contest! This will be the first developer contest featuring Box’s new Instant Mode feature and they are opening the beta for the Twilio developer community. Just email developers@box.com to get your API key enabled.

Spring has sprung but for many of us, especially in San Francisco, this means rain. Crazy weather and lots of rain. Luckily there are all sorts of new tools and fun hacks to keep tabs on the weather and make predictions through patterns. Our friends at Weather Underground have a super API with an incredible range of global weather data. This developer contest is for those who love data and hacking the weather.

The title of weather-master is included for the winner of this contest, but we’re also throwing in a super rad Vantage Vue Wireless Weather Station Underground Package for the first place entry. We’re also throwing in two second-place prizes: a Kindle totally stocked with a handful of the top books on programming, weather hacking and technology. That’s three chances to win, so let’s get started.

The Challenge: Build a Weather Hack with Wunderground & Twilio

Build any weather-inspired app that uses both the Wunderground and Twilio APIs. With the upcoming hurricane season, what kind of severe weather warnings could you build with voice and SMS? How could you integrate weather and travel with apps like Tripit? Weather can be predicted but also random, so what random number generation types of apps could you build? So much data to hack around with, and we can’t wait.

To get started with the Weather Underground API:

Sign up here (it only takes a minute)

Read the documentation here

Find code samples here

You have two weeks to build something that takes the best of Weather Underground’s data and Twilio voice or SMS capabilities. Make sure to submit your app by Sunday, April 15th right here on this form.

Twilio Client for iOS is now available for developers everywhere to easily integrate voice and presence into mobile apps. Now you can make and receive phone calls, and provide real-time presence using the data connection of your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

We’re really excited to get hacking on new projects and see what mobile ideas the community comes up with next. This developer contest challenges you to get started with the new Twilio iOS SDK in return for the most epic of mobile developer glory. All contest entries will receive Twilio credit and recognition on the official Twilio blog, while the top winner will take home an iPad 3.

Time to download the SDK and give your iOS app a voice.

The Challenge: Build a Twilio Client iOS App

Get started on a new mobile app or add voice capabilities to a current app that really makes the experience unique. We’ve got documentation, helper libraries and sample code for you to dig into:

Twilio Client

Twilio Client iOS Quickstart

iOS User Guide

Download the SDK

Here are a few interesting ideas to kickstart the brainstorm process:

Mobile games - Let players banter in real time or leave each other voice messages while playing iOS games. Built in presence gives you the ability to detect when other user are online.

Social apps - Build apps that let friends, contacts or mobile daters call each other with or without a traditional phone number. Enable 1:1 connections or multi-person voice chat.

Distributed mobile agents / call centers - Deploy phone agents anywhere with nothing but an iPad and a headset. Easily route calls to them based on their availability and skills.

Mobile commerce - Connect prospects and customers to sales or support agents in real time. Since callers stay inside the app, you can see exactly which products they’ve browsed when they call.

Mobile marketing - Build “tap-to-call” into your mobile campaigns and instantly connect a lead from within your app.

The Prizes

This contest is big and we’re packing the Twilio heat to reward the top Twilio Client iOS apps submitted.

Everyone that submits an app that meets the requirements will receive $15 Twilio credit – that’s 600 Twilio Client minutes

Everyone that submits an app that meets the requirements will receive recognition and link promotion to the app

Two runner ups will each receive $25 in Twilio credit – that’s 1,000 Twilio Client minutes

First place will receive $50 in Twilio credit and an iPad 3 so you can focus on building apps for the hottest mobile device, and a feature on the Twilio blog

Contest Rules

Say farewell to 2011 and welcome 2012 with a hack for the age of DOers.

Being the very first developer contest to kick off the new year, this theme focuses on making 2012 the best year ever. 2012 is about thinking big, taking risks, and “DOing” the only way Twilions know how.

The Challenge: Build an App for the 2012 DOer

This developer contest challenge is to build an app to help us get it all done. GTD, GSD, or whatever framework you choose, let’s cross those tasks off lists, wipe stories off the board, bust bugs in the backlog and show that New Year’s Baby who’s boss.

Find Your DOer Inspiration

If you’re looking for inspiration, read about Jonathan Kressaty’s TwiMLbin, a hosting solution he built to help his team and others test Twilio apps quickly and efficiently. Or this voice reminder app built by Tryn Mirell to support his goal of keeping his kitty’s litter box at its cleanest.

What’s at stake for this contest, aside from the personal achievement of taking on a new goal and kicking it into high gear? We’re giving one winner a Kindle Fire.

Contest Rules

The holidays are upon us! This means lots of napping, big meals, more napping, and too much time with family. The best part? Extra time for hacking. So we thought an extra special API mashup developer challenge would be perfect over the extended holidays, with just a smidge of holiday cheer.

The Challenge: Build a Digital Rube Goldberg machine

This would be an hyper-engineered machine that accomplishes a simple task, such as this beauty from Back to the Future or this favorite from Goonies. Create a Twilio app with multiple APIs, stringing together as many as possible to effect a very simple result. Bonus points for using multiple Twilio capabilities and double extra bonus points for a holiday theme. Holiday hilarity powered by a comically complex demonstration of API prowess – a Twilio kind of holiday.

How the Twilio Rube Goldberg Contest Works

We’ll be judging on the best use of multiple APIs and Twilio capabilities, the more the better, along with the most creative implementation. Maybe use this time to dig into Twilio Client or try out a TwiML verb you’ve never used before. Use of holiday theme for extra bonus points.

Looking for some new APIs to play with? Here’s a few of our favorites:

Box

Foursquare

Google Maps

Podio

Shopify

SoundCloud

Wunderground

Find more on Programmable Web

If you’re looking for inspiration take a look at last year’s holiday contest, where anything goes. A hacked doorbell, Blizzalert for the snow and a translation app just to name a few.

What’s at stake for this contest, aside from the epic glory of mashing the most API’s ever mashed before with Twilio? We’re giving away a Mac Book Air *and* a full-sized Christmas Story Leg Lamp.

Just over three weeks ago, Twilio announced our expansion into Europe and the demand is positively rabid. Twilio phone numbers in the United Kingdom has opened up new levels of trans-Atlantic possibility to our developer community, from opening up existing apps to a new market to forging new Twilio-powered products that cut the headaches out of international communication.

In celebration of this successful launch, we’re inviting Twilions worldwide to throw down their ability in a fortnight friendly – our first UK developer competition. Rules for this one are simple – use Twilio Voice to make a United Kingdom number do something exciting.

What kind of things can you do with a Twilio UK number? Here’s a few we’ve already seen in the wild:

A forwarding service to give users US and UK phone numbers.

A Twilio Client implementation to leverage Twilio’s aggressive international calling rates

Roll-your-own UK calling card service

Dial-a-Song clone featuring British punk rock bands

Anything goes this week so long as you’re using Twilio Voice to connect to the United Kingdom.

What’s at stake? The brand new Kindle Fire.
