What happens during the carrier approval process?
A short code must be reviewed by the mobile carriers before it can send and receive SMS messages. The first part of the process is working with Twilio on your carrier application, and the second part of the process involves Twilio working with all the US mobile carriers to have your application approved.
Twilio Review Process (2 to 5 days) * You submit your short code application to Twilio. * We review your application and help you refine it before submitting to carriers. * Once your application is ready, you must pay for your Twilio short code. * Once you’ve paid, we then submit you application to the carriers and this begins the carrier review process.
Carrier Review Process (8 to 12 weeks) * Carriers review your application form and any related websites or mobile apps. * If any questions arise, we work with the carriers to answer them. * Carriers add the short code to their network and test it. * Carriers give final approval and your short code is live. Your short code is now ready to send and receive SMS.
