What are International SMS Permissions and how do they work?

What is International SMS Messaging Permissions?

Twilio provides our users with the ability to send outbound SMS messages globally. Your account is set up to allow access to reach most any country using Twilio right out of the box, so there is actually no formal process to request International SMS Messaging Permissions.

You do however, have the ability to modify your SMS capabilities by deselecting countries in which you want disallow messaging to. Please refer to the link below:

How does International SMS messaging work?

Since no special request form is required to send global messaging, we recommend you visit our SMS Geographic Permission page to preview the list of countries in which your account allows messaging content to and from. We suggest you familiarize yourself with the countries your account supports in order to better protect yourself from unwanted messaging. Can I manage different international SMS permissions for individual subaccounts?

Yes. Even though at sign up, your account is enabled for worldwide messaging, Twilio recommends enabling only the countries each account or subaccount will need to access in order to avoid any unwanted messaging. This includes deselecting countries that are not of immediate use to you. You can always go back into your settings and reactive usage to any country on the list.

What do I do if I notice irregular activity on my account?

If you notice any irregular activity on your account immediately contact help@twilio.com, as well as your account manager. Twilio takes the financial security of our users very seriously, but it is still the responsibility of the account owner to reach out to us immediately.

Once an incident is reported, we can suspend all activity on an account or subaccount, or block a certain prefix while an investigation ensues. It is better to be safe and temporarily out of service, than risk high charges and abusive activity.
