Scaling a marketplace through self-onboarding

In late 2013, the number of Lyft passengers was growing too rapidly proportionally to the number of drivers Lyft was able to onboard in their office. Supply was becoming a foreseeable bottleneck for fast nationwide expansion. Lyft had to staff up its Operations team with dozens of employees, calling drivers to help get them through its onboarding process. That is what pushed Lyft to build a completely automated infrastructure around their driver recruiting process to empower existing drivers to onboard other drivers. In this session, Lyft will describe how they did this and how they are now able to onboard tens of thousands of drivers completely remotely, with virtually no intervention from their main office. A win for Lyft, the new drivers, and their existing drivers.
