30005: Unknown destination handset

This delivery error indicates that the destination number is unknown and may no longer exist. Twilio surfaces this status based on delivery information from carrier partners.
- The destination number is unknown and may no longer exist.
- The device is powered off or has insufficient signal.
- The destination number cannot receive SMS such as a landline.
- An issue at the mobile carrier is preventing delivery.
- Reproduce the issue by sending another test message using a REST API request to confirm whether the error persists.
- Verify the destination number is in proper E.164 format:
[+] [country code] [subscriber number including area code]
with the correct country code and subscriber number. - Check the handset and network conditions on the recipient side such as device power, signal strength, and whether the device is on its home network rather than roaming.
- Test whether the recipient can receive non-Twilio SMS and whether another Twilio number or a shorter one segment message is received.
- If issues persist, gather at least three recent Message SIDs from your Programmable Messaging Logs that show Error 30005 and engage Twilio Support for investigation.
