Content delivery network

Service Provider. A global network of servers that stores and serves copies of website content to website visitors using the server geographically closest to each website visitor.

The network selects the servers for delivery based on the geographic locations of the website visitor, the original webpage, and content delivery server. Through a CDN, website visitors experience reduced latency and load times while the original web server reduces bandwith costs and improves reliability.

A CDN copies your static website files to other servers in various geographic locations. These are called points of presence (POP) or edge servers. This process is called caching.

When a website visitor tries to go to your website, their request gets routed to the closest edge server instead of your website.

This speeds access to your website content.
