Is Twilio Video discontinued?

No. Twilio Video is fully supported and under active development. In October 2024, Twilio reversed an earlier end-of-life announcement and committed to ongoing investment in Video as a standalone product. Twilio Video continues to accept new customers and ship new features.

What platforms and browsers does the Twilio Video SDK support?

Twilio Video provides SDKs for the following main platforms:

  • JavaScript — supports Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Samsung Internet on desktop and mobile
  • Android — supports Android API level 25 and above
  • iOS — supports iOS 14.0 and above

How is Twilio Video priced?

Twilio Video is priced per participant minute with no upfront commitments or minimum fees. You only pay for the time participants spend connected to a Video Room. There are additional charges for optional features such as recordings, compositions, transcriptions, and phone dial-in/dial-out.

What is a participant minute?

A participant minute is the unit of billing for Twilio Video. One participant minute is counted for each minute (or partial minute) that a participant is connected to a Video Room. For example, if 4 participants are in a room for 10 minutes, that counts as 40 participant minutes.


Does Twilio Video support screen sharing, recordings, and transcriptions?

Yes. Twilio Video supports all three:

  • Screen sharing — participants can share their screen as a video track. To learn more, see Share a participant's screen.
  • Recordings — record individual tracks or compose entire Group Rooms. Recordings can be stored in Twilio's cloud or your own external storage with encryption support. To learn more, see Understanding Recordings and Compositions.
  • Transcriptions — real-time transcription is available for Group Rooms, providing live captions powered by multiple speech recognition models. To learn more, see Real-time Transcriptions for Video.

Is Twilio Video HIPAA eligible?

Yes. Twilio Video is HIPAA eligible, and Twilio can sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with covered entities.
