Call Resource

A Call instance resource represents a connection between a telephone and Twilio. This call instance may be inbound when a person calls your application, or outbound when your application initiates the call. A call may be initiated by either via the REST API (see Making Calls) or during a request via the TwiML <Dial> verb.

The Calls list resource represents the set of phone calls made to and from an account.

Call Instance Resource

Resource URI

/2010-04-01/Accounts/{AccountSid}/Calls/{CallSid}

Retrieve Call By ID

To get real-time call status updates we recommend using the StatusCallbackEvent on the Outbound API request or on the TwiML <Dial> verb statusCallbackEvent attribute for the case of child calls.

HTTP POST

Initiates a redirect of an active call or terminates a call. To create a new call, POST to the Calls List Resource instead.

POST Parameters

The following parameters are available for you to POST when modifying a phone call:

PARAMETER DESCRIPTION
Url A valid URL that returns TwiML. Twilio will immediately redirect the call to the new TwiML.
Method The HTTP method Twilio should use when requesting the above URL. Defaults to POST.
Status

Either canceled or completed. Specifying canceled will attempt to hang up calls that are queued or ringing but not affect calls already in progress. Specifying completed will attempt to hang up a call even if it's already in progress.

FallbackUrl  A URL that Twilio will request if an error occurs when requesting or executing the TwiML at Url.
FallbackMethod  The HTTP method that Twilio should use to request the FallbackUrl. Must be either GET or POST. Defaults to POST.
StatusCallback  A URL that Twilio will request when the call ends to notify your app
StatusCallbackMethod  The HTTP method Twilio should use when requesting the above URL. Defaults to POST.

Redirect an Active Call to a New URL

Redirect a call in progress by POSTing to the Call Instance Resource with the destination Url parameter.

Terminate a Running Call

See Modifying Live Calls for more details.

HTTP PUT

Not supported

HTTP DELETE

Deletes a call record from your account. Once the record is deleted, it will no longer appear in the API and Account Portal logs.

If successful, this DELETE returns an HTTP 204 (No Content) with no body.

Note that it will throw an error if you attempt to remove an in-progress call record. See Modifying Live Calls for instructions on how to terminate a live call.

Call Instance Subresources

Each Call instance resource supports a few subresources for your convenience.

Recordings List Subresource

/2010-04-01/Accounts/{YourAccountSid}/Calls/{CallSid}/Recordings

Represents a list of recordings generated during the call identified by {CallSid}. See the Recordings section for resource properties and response formats.

Feedback Instance Subresource

/2010-04-01/Accounts/{YourAccountSid}/Calls/{CallSid}/Feedback

Represents a call quality feedback entry for a given phone call identified by {CallSid}. See the Call Quality Feedback section for resource properties and response formats.

Calls List Resource

Resource URI

/2010-04-01/Accounts/{AccountSid}/Calls

HTTP GET

Returns a list of phone calls made to and from the account identified by {AccountSid}. The Calls List resource is eventually consistent.

List All Calls

Get the list of all calls tied to your account.

Get a List of All Calls

Paging

The list returned to you includes paging information. If you plan on requesting more records than will fit on a single page, you may want to use the provided nextpageuri rather than incrementing through the pages by page number. Using nextpageuri helps to ensure that your next request picks up where it left off and can prevent you from retrieving duplicate data if you are actively making or receiving calls.

List Filters

The following GET query string parameters allow you to limit the list returned. Note, parameters are case-sensitive:

Parameter Description
To Only show calls to this phone number, SIP address, Client identifier or SIM Sid.
From Only show calls from this phone number, SIP address, Client identifier or SIM Sid.
Status Only show calls currently in this status. May be queued, ringing, in-progress, canceled, completed, failed, busy, or no-answer.
StartTime Only show calls that started on this date, given as YYYY-MM-DD. Also supports inequalities, such as StartTime<=YYYY-MM-DD for calls that started at or before midnight on a date, and StartTime>=YYYY-MM-DD for calls that started at or after midnight on a date.
ParentCallSid Only show calls spawned by the call with this Sid.

Filter Calls List

The following examples show how to retrieve calls by start date, completed date, calls made in a given range, busy calls, and calls to a specific number.

Only show calls that were made from a Twilio Client device named 'tommy'.
Retrieve Calls from Specific Device

Only show calls that were made from a Twilio Client device named 'tommy'.

A note on representation: You can append a '.csv' extension to any resource URI to get a Comma Separated Values representation. This is especially useful for call logs. Try this:

GET /2010-04-01/Accounts/AC5ef87.../Calls.csv

Read the guide to Returning JSON, CSV, and HTML for more information about all available alternate representations.

HTTP POST

To make a new call, make an HTTP POST request to your account's Calls list resource.

Required Parameters

You must POST the following parameters:

PARAMETER DESCRIPTION
From The phone number or client identifier to use as the caller id. If using a phone number, it must be a Twilio number or a Verified outgoing caller id for your account.
To The phone number, SIP address or client identifier to call.

You must also POST one of the following parameters:

PARAMETER DESCRIPTION
Url The fully qualified URL that should be consulted when the call connects. Just like when you set a URL on a phone number for handling inbound calls. See the Url Parameter details in Making Calls for more details.
ApplicationSid The 34 character sid of the application Twilio should use to handle this phone call. If this parameter is present, Twilio will ignore all of the voice URLs passed and use the URLs set on the application. See the ApplicationSid Parameter section in Making Calls for more details.
