Twilio is thrilled to welcome Joyce Kim as our new Chief Marketing Officer, leading our global marketing as we continue to build the future of customer engagement.

Joyce Kim joins Twilio from Genesys, where she also served as Chief Marketing Officer and was responsible for driving market expansion and enterprise revenue growth. Prior to Genesys, she was Chief Digital & Marketing Officer for Arm, where she led the enterprise-wide digital transformation and global marketing strategy with one of the largest developer ecosystems in the world. She also serves as a member of the board of directors and the audit committee at Quicklogic corporation (QUIK), the nonprofit Bring Me A Book, and is a member of the Fast Company Executive Board.

We asked her five questions to get to know her and see what she’s excited to build at Twilio.

If you could bring back any fashion trend, what would it be?

Hair scrunchies! I secretly use it while at home as they never pull on your hair - especially if you have long hair and it doesn't make the ponytail crease in your hair after you take it off. Very practical.

What was your first job?

My first professional job was programming billing systems in COBOL and a little C++. My first job ever was as a cashier at a surf shop. I remember the feeling of getting your first real paycheck and realizing taxes are real.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?

If I can't finish something in less than an hour, I force myself to walk away and do something else – grab some coffee or soda, get my mail, take my dog for a quick walk, or anything that will distract me for at least 15 min. Then when I come back to it, I review what I did previously and can see things differently or more effectively build upon it.

What excites you about taking on this new role at Twilio?

Twilio is taking on one of the most interesting challenges in the enterprise software space today – powering data-driven, personalized customer experiences at every stage of the journey. No company has ignited the developer spirit better than Twilio, and there is a giant opportunity ahead to bring this innovation into the enterprise. Twilio is driving the future of the customer engagement market and category, and I can't wait to be part of it.

Which Twilio Magic value or principle resonates most with you?

For me, it's definitely "We are Positrons". I am a huge believer that enjoying the people you are on the journey with is just as important as the journey itself. Being a positive force, helping and caring about people seems so obvious but can be hard to do sometimes. So the fact that it is an explicit value is amazing to me. All companies go through challenges but when you dive in as a positron, I think the magic extends to the teams in a personal way as well as driving successful business outcomes.

Welcome to Twilio, Joyce, we can’t wait to see what you build!
