Twilio Changelog | Jun. 26, 2025
Elastic SIP Trunking Symmetric RTP disabled by default for new trunks
What’s changing?
Starting 30th June, 2025, Twilio’s Elastic SIP Trunking Symmetric Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) functionality will be disabled by default when you create new SIP Trunks.
What does this mean for you?
New Trunks: Any new SIP Trunks created after the effective date will have Symmetric RTP turned off by default under General Trunk settings.
Existing Trunks: There is no impact to existing Trunks; your current symmetric RTP settings will remain unchanged. However, Twilio strongly recommends customers to start using secure trunking - TLS for SIP signalling and Secure RTP (SRTP) for media as a standard best practice.
Optional Enabling: You may still enable Symmetric RTP via the Console if your network setup requires it.
What action do you need to take?
Review your current Trunk configurations and turn off symmetric RTP if your network does not require it.
Consider migrating to Secure Trunking (TLS + SRTP)
