Over the past year, millions of people around the world and across the political spectrum took to the streets in public demonstrations. In addition to these public demonstrations, people are turning to their mobile devices to voice their interests, through texts, emails, phone calls, social media, and even fax. And many social impact organizations are hard at work channeling these millions of voices into political movements, breaking down the communications barriers between the public and elected officials.

The key to many of these communications? API building blocks, which make it possible for organizations to rapidly build scalable, multi-channel communications tools customized for their communities.

In this report we take a closer look at the intersection of communication APIs and political engagement, including how organizations are using APIs to power connections between people and their elected officials. We’ll also explore how Twilio.org and the Twilio communications platform can help organizations working to build a better democracy.
