Introducing Developer Evangelist Anni Chen
Time to read:
Ahoy there! 😃 Welcome to Anni’s Diner, let me show you to your table.
Today’s special is my Tasting Menu of Dev Experiences: three courses that serve up the ingredients behind my journey as a Developer Evangelist.
Starters: Spicy and exciting beginnings
My first bite of developer relations began at Hacksmiths, the tech society at Goldsmiths University. There, I traded day-time lectures for late nights organizing hackathons and workshops. It was here that I first crossed paths with Twilio, who generously sponsored our annual creative hackathon, sparking my fascination in how technology brings people together (like food!).

After graduating, COVID hit. I returned home to Taiwan and threw myself into the world of Computer Vision, helping machines “see” by building image pre-processing pipelines and training models for smart city systems. Whilst rewarding, I also wanted to share my knowledge and spark conversations with others, so I began volunteering with Women in AI in APAC, where I hosted webinars, led workshops, and presented fun topics around AI, asking important questions like “is this a picture of a chihuahua or a muffin?”

With every conversation, my fascination in AI grew. I discovered real joy in breaking down complex ideas and bringing people together to learn and create. As my appetite for shared learning grew, I found myself gravitating towards spaces where code and community intersect, naturally leading to the next course in my journey.
Main: The umami of code, community and Twilio
I officially dived into the world of developer relations after moving back to London, working at companies focused on AI and developer tooling. There, I engaged with developers across open-source projects, Discord AMAs, blog writing, demos, and events like the Hacking Agents Hackathon 2025. Along the way, I learned that good developer experience is a lot like good cooking: it’s not just about the ingredients, but how you combine them and how you serve them.

Umami flavours often emerge when multiple ingredients interact, just like how innovation happens when diverse developers come together, share context and build. Now, I get to work at the heart of what excites me most: enabling others to build, communicate, and connect through code. Whether it’s showing a beginner how to send their first SMS, working with a team on integrating AI into voice flows, or simply sparking new ideas at a hackathon, I see my role as creating that layer of umami.

Dessert: Sweet stories and delightful connections
Finally, there’s always room for something sweet. Like my sister always says, food (and code) is better when it’s enjoyed and shared together. So whether you’re cooking up your first webhook or your fiftieth integration, I’d love to hear what you’re creating!
Thank you for joining me at the table, I hope you enjoyed today’s dining experience. I’m Anni, a Developer Evangelist at Twilio and I will be serving up fresh code dishes and building meaningful moments with developers and communities in the UK and EMEA region.
