Studio

RCS support now available in Studio

Twilio Studio now natively supports RCS (rich communication services) for both outbound and incoming message flows. This means you can now build and automate rich, branded, and interactive messaging experiences directly within Studio, leveraging all the benefits of RCS—such as rich media, card crousels, and webviews—without the need for workarounds or custom integrations.

For configuration details and best practices, see our documentation:

Studio

Start Conversation widget now available in Studio

Studio now includes the Start Conversation widget, which enables Studio flows to initiate a two-way Twilio Conversation without requiring custom code or direct API calls. This widget creates a Conversation with a single participant and configures Studio to continue the flow when inbound messages are received.

Note that this widget is only for outbound/REST API triggered flows. Inbound flows already support Twilio Conversations without the Start Conversation widget.

For more information, see our Start Conversation widget docs.

Studio

ConversationRelay widget is now available in Studio

Studio now includes a ConversationRelay widget that allows you to connect live voice calls directly to a WebSocket server (that you provide) using Twilio ConversationRelay.

This widget:

  • Exposes ConversationRelay configuration options

  • Supports custom parameters and voice controls

  • Provides Success and Failed transitions for orchestrating session outcomes within Studio flows

For more information, see our ConversationRelay widget docs

Opt in to a faster, refreshed Studio canvas experience (beta)

We’re introducing a refreshed, easier-to-use Studio canvas in public beta. This update offers a snappier building experience and an updated design with zero impact on your existing flow logic.

What’s new

  • High-performance interactions: The new canvas is built for speed, delivering smooth panning, zooming, and dragging especially for workflows with hundreds of widgets.

  • Modernized look and feel: We've overhauled the visual interface to align with modern Twilio UX standards, featuring updated node styling, improved spacing, and cleaner typography.

  • Safe, side-by-side testing: Explore the new UI with total confidence. This update maintains full feature parity with the classic canvas, ensuring your widgets and flow logic work exactly as they did before.

How to opt in

Ready to try it out? You’ll find a banner at the top of your Studio page with an option to Try Studio’s new canvas. Turning on this option enables the new canvas experience just for you, without affecting the view for the rest of your team. If you need to switch back at any time, turn off the new canvas option at the top of the page to return to the classic canvas.

Feedback

We want to hear from you! Please help us shape the future of Studio by sharing your thoughts about the updated Studio canvas.

Update Profile Traits Widget in Private Beta

We're excited to announce that the Update Profile Traits Widget is in Private Beta. Use this widget to take information you learn about a caller during a flow execution and send it to Unified Profiles to update profile trait data. This allows you to enrich profiles to personalize future customer experiences based on their profile traits.

Studio Flex GA

Studio now enables parsing parameters as JSON objects

When using the Set Variables widget and Run Subflow widget, parameters are (by default) parsed as strings. Use the `parse as JSON object` option when you know a parameter will be a JSON object. This will allow the variable to be properly interpreted as a JSON object so you can reference its attributes within the Studio flow.

The `parse as JSON object` option allows you to:

  • Set or pass an existing JSON object and reference its members as variables.

  • Set a literal JSON string (Liquid reference to a JSON string, or a mixture of JSON and Liquid) and access it as an object.
