Twilio’s guiding principle when it comes to data protection is “No Shenanigans,“ and we take that seriously.

In June, we were named one of 130 companies worldwide to receive approval from the EU Data protection authorities for our Binding Corporate Rules.

So what does that mean for you?

“We are committed to being good stewards of your data and you don’t just have to just take our word for it,” said Sheila Jambekar, Associate General Counsel at Twilio, “we’re constantly thinking ahead and want all of our customers to feel confident when entrusting us with their data.”

Binding Corporate Rules are considered one of the highest standards for data protection, and represent a company-wide commitment to how we will handle our customer’s personal data.

A company’s BCRs undergo a rigorous regulatory approval process by EU data protection authorities that confirms that the company’s data privacy policies meet the highest level of requirements and that the company’s customers’ data receives equally stringent protection wherever the data may be processed by Twilio..

Twilio began the journey for BCR approval two years ago by creating a company-wide code of conduct for how we would handle all of our customer’s data. We then worked with EU data protection agencies to go through the vetting process to ensure that our data privacy policies meet the highest level of requirements and ensure that customers’ personal data receives equally high levels of protection wherever Twilio processes the data. Our BCRs were approved in May 2018 and demonstrate our commitment to provide adequate protection of personal data.

Our GDPR compliance ensures all of our customer’s data in the EU is protected and our BCRs enable the transfer of personal data to Twilio group members across borders in compliance with EU data protection law.

“Trust is the number one thing we sell in the cloud,” said Jeff Lawson, co-founder and chief executive officer at Twilio. “Data privacy is one of the most important issues of our time and Twilio is taking this opportunity to raise the bar and provide the highest level of data protection for our customers worldwide. GDPR compliance and BCRs are two ways we are doing so this year.”

So, in short: when it comes to your data, you can trust us.
