Senders Gain Access to More Data with Yahoo ‘Insights’
Yahoo Mail has launched something that senders should be very excited about: Yahoo ‘Insights’! ‘Insights’ will live in Yahoo Sender Hub and will give senders access to data points that will help you drill deeper into performance with Yahoo and AOL recipients.
What Data Will We Have Access To?
Yahoo ‘Insights’ will show senders their true spam complaint rate with Yahoo and AOL recipients. Yahoo calculates this complaint rate by looking at the number of emails that ended up in the inbox, not just overall volume. Similar to Google Postmaster, Yahoo defines a recommended maximum complaint rate of 0.1% and an enforcement threshold of 0.3%.

On top of your true complaint rate, Yahoo ‘Insights’ will also provide the overall volume per day from that domain/ subdomain to Yahoo and AOL subscribers. For both the complaint rate and overall volume, you can currently go back as far as 180 days.

How Do I Set This Up?
The first step is to create an account in Yahoo Sender Hub, if you don’t already have one. Once you’re logged in, navigate to ‘Dashboard’. You should then see an option to ‘Add Domain’.
After you add your domain/ subdomain, Yahoo generates a TXT record and provides 3 steps needed to verify ownership of that domain…
1. Copy this TXT record
2. Update your domain's DNS configuration with the TXT record
3. Return to the Sender Hub to finish verification
It’s important to note that after you go through these steps and finish verification, it can take 24-28 hours to start seeing data in the dashboard. Domains also need to meet a minimum volume threshold before data will start populating in ‘Insights’.
How Does Access Work?
As of right now, it’s not possible to grant access to teammates. If multiple teammates want to have access to the data and they don’t want to share one Sender Hub login, you can generate a TXT record in multiple Sender Hub accounts for the same domain/ subdomain and add each of them to your DNS so multiple accounts can have access.
If you have more questions, Yahoo does have an FAQ page on Yahoo ‘Insights’. If you notice your complaint rates in ‘Insights’ are surpassing 0.1%, our professional services team is here to assist and figure out what changes need to be made to your email program to reduce complaint rates.
