Twilio Programmable Messaging now supports RCS to AT&T phone numbers, completing full US carrier coverage for RCS Business Messaging. With AT&T joining Verizon and T-Mobile on our platform, you can now reach every major U.S. carrier with rich, interactive conversations where devices are RCS-capable.

RCS brings app-like messaging experiences directly to consumer’s native messaging inbox. With full domestic carrier coverage, brands can now scale their unified rich messaging strategy across the United States, without managing fragmented workflows. Twilio’s platform detects RCS-capable devices and seamlessly upgrades eligible messages to a branded, verified sender, with automatic fallback to SMS/MMS when needed.

Getting started is simple

Activating Twilio RCS on AT&T is streamlined through the Twilio Console:

  • Create an RCS Sender in the Twilio Console and submit it for approval.

  • Universal submission: When submitting in the US, Twilio automatically submits your Sender for approval across all major U.S. carriers, including AT&T.

  • Priority for approved senders: If your RCS Sender is already approved by Verizon or T-Mobile, we’ll automatically prioritize your submission to AT&T for review and approval.

  • Zero code migration: If you’re already using Twilio Messaging Services, you can upgrade to RCS with zero code changes.

Important notes on testing and approvals:

  • Temporary testing limitation: Adding AT&T phone numbers as test devices is temporarily not supported with this initial update. Your RCS Sender must be approved by AT&T before production RCS messages can be delivered to AT&T numbers.

  • Future testing support: AT&T test-device support is planned for early 2026.

  • Manual approval timeline: The vetting conducted by the carriers is still a manual process and typically takes 2–6 weeks across regions.
