Google Reveals New Email Error Codes
Not long after Google released their new list of sender requirements, the question arose over what new error codes we would begin to see. Google recently revealed a new list of 6 error codes that will be used for senders that are not compliant with the list of requirements.
Along with the error code itself, Google also provided details of each error code to help diagnose the issue you are running into if you notice these error codes in your reporting.
Google Email Error Codes
Error Code: 4.7.23
When would you see this? If you don’t have reverse DNS set up for your sending IP, or if the PTR record’s forward DNS entry doesn’t match the sending IP address.
Error Code: 4.7.27
When would you see this? SPF (Sender Policy Framework) did not pass for this message.
Error Code: 4.7.29
When would you see this? This message was not sent over a TLS connection.
Error Code: 4.7.30
When would you see this? DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) did not pass for this message.
Error Code: 4.7.31
When would you see this? The sending domain did not have a DMARC policy in place.
Error Code: 4.7.32
When would you see this? The From: header (RFC5322) in the message did not align with either the authenticated SPF or DKIM organizational domain.
Google also released a new compliance dashboard in March 2024. If you are not in compliance with any of Google’s new list of sender requirements, you should be able to notice the issues in the dashboard and hopefully avoid seeing any of the error codes above.
