This year at Twilio’s SIGNAL Sydney, you can experience a range of fun activations that showcase Twilio technology. Whether you’re looking to build your own application, win some SWAG, or learn how Twilio works, we hope you enjoy these as much as we do. There are three main experiences we’ve curated for you this year: Twilio Arcades, Twilio Barista, and Twilio AI Artist. Let’s look at each one, and dive a little into the tech behind them.

Twilio Arcades

Showcased at our San Francisco and São Paulo SIGNALs, these arcades were a hit. So we thought we’d bring them all the way to Australia. Step inside the game, through the screens, past the flashing lights, and into gameplay.

This retro-futuristic, immersive experience wasn’t just about nostalgia or gaming. It’s powered by Twilio products and services, with a layer of data-driven magic, all orchestrated by Segment. There are three arcades you can play, each showcasing a different piece of Twilio technology.

Create your own conversational bot with Owlvin AI

Bring your bot-building ideas to life with Owlvin AI. Customise your own conversational agent, choose its personality, set its responses, and tune how it interacts.

Put your bot to the test by calling it through Twilio Voice and ConversationRelay.

• Twilio Segment: Collects and manages attendee data for personalized bot experiences. Stores your personalised AI agent with your profile. Tracks activation completion for points.
• Twilio Programmable Voice: Powers the interaction with your bot via live interactive phone calls.
• Twilio ConversationRelay: Enables smooth, real-time AI-powered interactions.
• Twilio Programmable Messaging: You’ll receive a link with the number to contact your AI agent again if you’d like.

Choose your AI agent’s tone, mood, and topic of conversation. These decisions will determine how the agent sounds and interacts with you. Choose wisely. Once your selections are final, we will dynamically generate your AI agent and give you a QR code to scan from your mobile device.

Press call, and you’ll be connected to your newly created AI agent. Information is being tracked through Segment to mark the activation as completed, reward the user with points, and keep track of the agent that belongs to you.

Mission Possible? Take Command with Owl Ops

Step up to the retro mission control console and take charge. Complete quick, action-packed challenges using a physical corded phone. There are three possible scenarios: OwlShoes, Owl Air and OwlMobile. Each call uses Twilio tech to shape your outcome. Every choice you make is tracked and logged.

• Twilio Programmable Voice: Powers the interactive calls on a classically inspired Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) handset.
• Twilio ConversationRelay: Enables smooth, real-time AI-powered interactions.
• Twilio Segment: Tracks your progress and logs every action to customise and personalise the experience.
• Twilio Functions: Functions power the AI Agent’s tools and notify the web application of task completion.

Engage with three unique missions with an AI agent. Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to attempt to get the AI agent to complete the assigned tasks within the allotted time. Succeed, and you secure the necessary points. Fail, and it will self-destruct. Well, maybe not literally, but you’ll need to try again. The AI agent will aid you by utilising valuable knowledge sources and Twilio Functions. Once all tasks have been successfully completed, the data is stored in Segment, and points are awarded to your attendee profile.

Discover Twilio’s secret room

Not everything in the arcade is as it seems. Spot an “Out of Service” arcade machine? Here’s a hint: look closer. Hidden behind this unassuming façade is a secret adventure waiting to be unlocked.

Follow the clues and rack up valuable points (tracked through Segment) to gain access to our hidden backroom, a space pulsing with futuristic arcade vibes and nostalgia.

Once inside, you’ll find an informative wall diagram that reveals how Twilio products bring the experience to life. Want to put your luck to the test? Grab the controls on our claw machine and try to snag an exclusive prize to take home.

Twilion’s Hidden Roomis more than just a cool hangout. It’s a live demonstration of Twilio’s technology in action, combining seamless access, real-time engagement, and a dash of playful mystery.

AI-generated keepsakes

Imagine snapping a photo, choosing an artwork theme, and receiving your image in the theme you chose, complete with event branding? That’s exactly what you can do with Twilio’s AI Artist.

Upload a photo to WhatsApp, and we’ll work some magic to turn your moment into a personalised piece of SIGNAL memorabilia. We’ve also added in some rich media features, giving you the opportunity to pick your artwork theme via a carousel. Create as many as you like, delivered straight to your phone via WhatsApp. Pick your favourites to print and display to remind you of the fun time you had at SIGNAL Sydney.

• Twilio Programmable Messaging: Send a message to the WhatsApp registered phone number and start your creation process.
• Twilio Segment: Collects and manages data to track interaction with the photobooth and collect points.
• Twilio Rich Messaging: Rich Communication Services (RCS) enhances the user experience with branded sender IDs, rich media, and interactive content such as the AI artwork style picker we built into WhatsApp
• Twilio SendGrid: Delivers your digital caricature right to your email inbox so you can easily save and share it.
• OpenAI: We use OpenAI’s image generation to tweak your existing photos.

How many picture keepsakes are you making?

Twilio Barista

Ever been to a conference where you stand in line for ages waiting to order a coffee? With Twilio Barista, you can order your coffee from anywhere, and head to the coffee cart only when your order is ready. No more waiting in line.

Place your order through WhatsApp by choosing from the menu options and adding any modifiers, such as a milk alternative, or sugar. With our in-built AI, you can even send intelligence messages such as “Almond milk hot chocolate with one sugar”, and your order will be correctly placed. When we did some testing, we noticed the AI is even smart enough to know what drinks should and shouldn’t exist. For example, I tried ordering a “long black with oat milk”, and the response was “there’s an issue with your order”. When I probed further the AI told me “a long black doesn’t contain milk”. Seems like these AIs are now coffee connoisseurs!

• Twilio Programmable Messaging: Send a message to the WhatsApp registered phone number and start ordering your beverage.
• Twilio Sync: Stores orders in real-time, and synchronises them between front end and back end. Twilio Sync also configures the application and manages the permissions.
• Twilio Conversations: Manages the message thread to effectively order your coffee. For example, choose your beverage from the menu, and then you can write with text “and add one sugar”, and your existing order will be amended.
