Launch WhatsApp faster with Twilio: Senders API GA, plus Typing Indicators, Flows, and a smoother ISV experience
Time to read:
The WhatsApp Senders API is Generally Available
Your customers live on WhatsApp. We’re making it easier to meet them there, and keep conversations fast, helpful, and on brand
Today, we’re expanding WhatsApp support so you can launch quicker and scale with less lift. The WhatsApp Senders API is Generally Available, Typing Indicators and WhatsApp Flows are supported through Twilio, and Tech Provider Program onboarding in Console is cleaner for ISVs.
Less friction. Better engagement. More momentum.
Senders API is now GA
Think of the Senders API as the easy button for onboarding WhatsApp at scale. Instead of clicking through forms or juggling tools, you can manage more of the full sender lifecycle with code.
What you can do
Create and register WhatsApp senders programmatically
Verify ownership programmatically with SMS or alternatively via voice OTP
Fetch, list, and update sender profiles and webhooks
Retire numbers cleanly when you’re done
Why it matters
Built for scale across subaccounts, ideal for ISVs and enterprises managing lots of numbers
No Meta Business Suite login required when you use the API through Twilio
Cross‑channel foundation: WhatsApp is GA, RCS is supported, with more channels planned
Good to know
The Senders API handles registration; send messages with Twilio Programmable Messaging API or Conversations API
Numbers must support SMS or voice for OTP verification
Some edge cases may still require a Console step or Meta‑side action
Other recent updates
Typing Indicators: Let customers know a reply is in progress while you route to an agent, fetch data, or generate a response. This lowers perceived wait time and can lift CSAT.
WhatsApp Flows support: Ship multi‑screen, in‑thread experiences, guided product discovery, appointment booking, onboarding forms. Use in session or as approved templates (WhatsApp/flows), and pass data via endpoints for personalization.
Tech Provider Program (ISV) updates: We’ve revamped TPP onboarding in Console and significantly improved our docs. A quick account quiz routes users to the right path (ISV vs. direct) and blocks ineligible TPP requests. ISVs now get a dedicated WhatsApp Senders page and can create senders only from the parent account, closing gaps like subaccount Terms of Service misapplication. The result: fewer misconfigs and tickets, cleaner setups, and faster activations.
